Baby Blessing Dress

My brother and his wife had an adorable baby girl who is now five weeks old. I offered to make a dress for her baby blessing that is coming up in this weekend. My sister-in-law and I sketched a drawing of what she wanted it to look like and since it's so tiny it only took a few hours to sew.

The fabric and zipper are all from JoAnn's, the total cost was about $15. I used a free pattern for the bodice from Made By Rae (only the 0-3 month size is free). I referenced this tutorial from Simple Simon & Co for the sleeves. I just made up the skirt, put all the pieces together and finished it with a zipper in the back.

The original plan was to have the top plain and a lace skirt but there was a small disaster. I was almost done and was serging the inside seams and the bodice got caught in the serger and cut a huge hole in the front. So I sewed up the hole and made that big flower and added ribbon to cover it up.

Luckily it all worked out and my niece will have a dress to wear on her blessing day!

  2. What type of fabric was used? I love the lace skirt but my joanns doesn't carry anything that looks like it. Such a cute dress.
